At The King’s University (TKU), we are committed to fostering a community that seeks God wholeheartedly. As Gateway Church enters into 40 days of prayer and fasting, we feel a deep conviction to join in this powerful time of spiritual dedication. The fast began Monday, August 5, and will run through Friday, September 13.

A Message from Dr. Irini Fambro, TKU President

TKU President, Dr. Irini Fambro, has extended a heartfelt invitation to the entire TKU team (staff, students, and faculty) to participate in this season of fasting and prayer. She will be leading a dedicated prayer time at TKU’s Prayer (Room) Chapel on Thursday mornings from 8:15 AM to 8:45 AM during this period. This time will be set aside for us to come together as a university community to intercede for Gateway Church, our university, and the broader body of Christ.

The Purpose of This Fast

This 40-day fast is a significant opportunity for us to align our hearts with God’s will and seek His guidance, healing, and renewal. We are encouraged to pray for several key areas that are vital to the spiritual health of our communities:

  • Healing: Praying for God’s healing touch on those who have been hurt or wounded, asking for His comfort and restoration to be poured out.
  • Wisdom and Discernment: Interceding for the leadership of TKU and Gateway Church, that they may be guided by divine wisdom and discernment as they navigate this season.
  • Unity: Seeking a deeper unity within our TKU community and in our partnership with Gateway Church—unity with the Lord and with each other, as a reflection of Christ’s love.
  • Salvation for the Next Generation: Believing for 10,000 young people to experience salvation or return to the Lord, in accordance with the prophetic word spoken over Gateway Church this year.
  • Divine Leadership Selection: Praying for God’s leading with our Board of Trustees and in the search for Gateway Church’s next senior pastor, that the right individual would be prepared and called in God’s perfect timing.
  • Revival and Renewal: Asking God for a fresh outpouring of His Spirit in the hearts and minds of every person connected to Gateway and TKU, that we might experience revival and renewal in this season.

How to Participate in the Fast

Fasting is a deeply personal spiritual practice, and we encourage you to seek the Lord’s guidance on how you might participate. Here are some suggestions:

  • Food and Drink: Consider fasting from specific meals, sweets, or beverages. You might choose to fast one meal a day, all meals one day a week, or from certain types of food like sugar or snacks.
  • Technology: Limiting or abstaining from social media, video games, or television can create more space for prayer and reflection.
  • Other Practices: You might choose to fast from non-essential activities, such as reading the news or listening to the radio, and instead dedicate that time to prayer and meditation on God’s Word.

Join In-Person Prayer Times

In addition to our Thursday morning gatherings at the TKU Prayer (Room) Chapel, Gateway Church offers dedicated in-person prayer times at various campuses. These times provide an opportunity for us to join with the broader church community in seeking God together.

A Time of Expectation

This season of prayer and fasting is more than a ritual; it is an opportunity to encounter God in a profound way and to see His hand move powerfully in our lives, our university, and our church. Let us enter this time with hearts full of expectation, believing that God is ready to do a new work among us.
