Jared Barber says The King’s University is the only thing that brought him to Texas.
The Shreveport, LA native felt led to enroll at TKU after a conversation with his former youth pastor.
“We had a four hour lunch at Applebee’s about it,” he exclaimed. “I had no idea about Gateway or King’s. I went home and prayed about it and God just kind of opened the doors.”
Jared, who is pursuing a Christian ministry degree, says he feels a call to pastor and evangelize.
“I would love to have a church one day — also travel and speak,” he said.
He feels pulled to do that back home in Shreveport.
“I believe God’s bringing me here to prepare me — kind of like Nehemiah,” he explained. “He took him away from his home, raised him up and sent him back.”
Jared appreciates the focus TKU has on the Holy Spirit and credits the community of students and the staff for helping him navigate through his first year here.
“It has been the community that has helped me in tough trials,” he said. “The staff are here to help literally anyway possible — even if it means bending over backwards for you.”
Jared encourages prospective students to follow God’s call on their lives, wherever it may lead.
“There were many options I had to attend college, but God’s will has me here,” he exclaimed. “He can do the same thing for you. Don’t hesitate in your calling. Be on a relentless pursuit for wherever He has called you.”
